Cane Corsos are large and powerful working dogs that hunt bears, wild boars and bulls. They are very loyal and protective with a confident but reserved character. If you are looking for a dog that has these qualities and you're not a first-time dog owner, we may be able to help you.   Puppies should get proper training through formal classes, which provide opportunities for socialization and increase the bond between owner and dog. A Cane Corso's bond with its family is one that requires much quality time and attention as well as physical activity. You should give this dog at least an hour of daily exercise.

The Cane Corso is a serious dog, and we would rather talk families out of one than place a puppy badly. A well-bred Corso is calm and undemanding indoors, but it is a hundred-plus pound guardian with strong protective instincts and a real need for structure. That combination is wonderful in the right home and a genuine problem in the wrong one.

• Expect a large, powerful adult — roughly 88 to 110 pounds for males, somewhat less for females.
• Early socialisation is not optional. The breed is naturally reserved with strangers and needs wide, positive exposure as a puppy.
• They are people dogs. A Corso left alone in a yard for most of the day will not thrive and will often become difficult.
• Secure fencing, consistent rules from every adult in the house, and basic obedience are the baseline, not extras.
• Plan on ten to twelve years of commitment, plus the vet, food and training costs that come with a giant working breed.
